Judiciary has become farther away from people than ever before..!
Record pendency of cases at all levels, and the Supreme Court has 66, 727 cases, the highest number of pending cases that the top court has ever had. (according to a report dated 31st December 2020)
Introduction to the judiciary: Judiciary is one of the three main organs of the Government which safeguards democracy and protects the constitution. It comprises three types of courts, Supreme court, High Courts, and Subordinate courts at the district, municipal and village levels. The judiciary's decisions are respected and not interfered with by the other two organs. This allows the judges to perform their duties without fear or favour. Ultimately, they are bound by the constitution.
In India, there were stances when the cases took decades altogether for hearing. Sometimes, people spend lakhs of rupees on legal procedures and an innumerable amount of their valuable time toiling around the courts. Even then, it's highly likely for their hearing to be extended. In some cases, people give up on justice because of the following reasons,
1) Lack of time to toil around the court, knowing that it may take years to decades sometimes.
2) Lack of money to spend on travel and all the legal procedures.
3) Threats from the opposition
4) Lack of faith in the court
There were many threats in the country, where the people and the witnesses suffered a lot. Incidents reported the threats to lawyers and judges as well.
